  2. The buried lines markedThe 811 locate flags gas, water and electric lines ahead of grinding day, because a grind below grade is digging.
  3. The grinder brought inA compact grinder passes a standard 36-inch side gate, so a fenced back yard needs no truck on the lawn.
  4. Ground below gradeThe cutting wheel sweeps the stump and its root flare to chips 6 to 12 inches under the surface, which stops most regrowth.
  5. The chips raked backThe chip-and-soil mix fills the hole, raked level with the lawn, and the loose debris is cleared before we leave.

Some yards need the stump gone for good or the roots flattened as well, and each of those is a job of its own.
