Every stump job here starts with the route from the street to the stump, because a back yard closed by a fence is reached through its gate or not at all.
The houses and the streets
The median home here was built in 1998, so most yard trees went in with the house and have been growing just as long.
That age sets the timing of the work. A tree of that size is the one that comes down for leaning over the roof or shading out the lawn, and its stump is best ground soon after the cut, before suckers sprout from the roots and before the grass hides it from the mower.

When the stump is not the whole job
The same visit can take on more than the stump. Each of these has its own page, and each starts with the same free estimate.
Surface roots are ground down in the same visit as the stump, with the same machine and to the same depth, so the lawn mows flat.
Yard trees planted when these subdivisions were new have spread their roots across the grass, and grinding those roots is what stops them lifting the turf.
